About.
Michael McDaniel was born and raised in Centreville, Mississippi. After beginning his design career in California, he now lives in Austin, Texas, where he is a consultant and award winning designer. Michael graduated with a degree in Graphic Design from Mississippi State University, where he was named the College of Architecture Art and Design's 2006 Alumni Fellow. As a senior designer at frog design, he routinely works on large, diverse teams to solve complex interactive, transportation, wayfinding, environmental, and branding problems for a variety of industries.
His broad skill set and thoughtful approach to design has led to very unique and effective solutions for a variety of clients. This is reflected in his work as lead designer on teams for Capital Metropolitan Transit Authority's bus stop redesign and new commuter rail service projects. Michael's unique experience has helped to create patient wayfinding systems for major medical institutions around the country with impressive results in reducing patients' stress levels and increasing their on-time arrivals for appointments. His heart is truly in using design to help individuals in their daily lives. This goal is apparent in both his work in developing systems to aid weakened patients around hospitals and in his side projects such as his Reaction emergency housing system for disaster relief. Michael's work on design teams in various fields has been recognized by several professional design organizations, including the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers (SEGD), and the Cooper Union in New York. His design work has been featured in major design publications such as Graphis, Print, Step Inside Design, Critique, and How Magazine.
